About Mary Hemming MBACP (Accred), counsellor and psychotherapist in East London
I offer affordable counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples in Clapton, Hackney, near the City in East London. I practised as a counsellor at City and Hackney MIND for three years.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I am registered with the UKRCP. I abide by the Code of Ethics and Practice of Spectrum Training and BACP.
I began personal development work at the Spectrum Centre for Humanistic Psychology in 1992 and formal psychotherapy training
in 2003. I hold an OCR-accredited Certificate in Counselling Skills and I am trained in a range of therapeutic techniques, including gestalt, transactional analysis, somatic work and formative psychology. I continue in personal and professional development and supervision at Spectrum, whose training is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I have a background in book publishing, where my roles included
Co-founder and Director of Scottish and Northern Book Distribution Company, and Sales Director and Joint Managing Director of
The Women's Press. I previously trained and worked as a social worker, family case worker and community worker, and I worked in a therapeutic community for people wih alcohol issues. I also worked for some years as a bus driver.
I have a BA (Hons) in Philosophy from London University (Bedford College, London) and a Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate in Social Work from Glasgow University.
